League City, TX - May 10 and 17 of 2021 -
Millions of homes experienced frozen, then shattered pipes and the water damage due to what they call Winter Storm Uri. The havoc was created when in February, freezing temperatures swept deep into Texas. With no heat inside or outside homes, their water lines froze, causing the…. “Texas Frozen Pipe Disaster”.
We teamed up with a coalition of Omaha churches and Orphan Grain Train of Norfolk, NE to become “Team Nebraska” for this mission trip. In Texas we assisted two non-profits: The Fuller Center-Disaster Rebuilders and 4B Disaster Response Network (located in Texas City, TX.

We sent two teams for a week each on both May 10 and May 17. Our volunteers fanned out around several homes in towns on the southeast side for Houston. We were more than happy to assist with a "Demo Day" for an afternoon as 4B Disaster Response is renovating a large building. The area we worked on will become sleeping quarters for volunteers. This building will also house their offices, a kitchen facility and warehouse for ongoing assistance.

Interesting to find out as we assisted a lady who was still living on second floor of her home was that she was still living upstairs due to flooding that she experienced from Hurricane Harvey in 2017! Her walls had been finished, cabinets and sinks were being installed, so we hung doors, painted and began installing trim before we left. Most homes had up to a dozen huge holes chopped in the walls and ceilings where plumbing crews had to broken through to access pipes. We spent a good amount of time assisting a man who had recently been confined to a wheelchair. We were able to install a ramp up to his back door so he could get in and out, replaced the door as it was no longer secure, removed and replaced his kitchen cabinets and replaced sheetrock on his walls. He needed a lot of help so we had a team working at his home both weeks.
